LE TANGO DU P'TIT LOUIS : Tango was born in suburbs of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay) during the last quarter of the 19th century. 
 
Argentina, independent since 1810, freed its black slaves and unified its provinces. It acquired a capital, Buenos Aires and, in 1880, a federal constitution. From 1870, it appealed to European immigration to ensure its economic development. The port of Buenos Aires then saw the arrival of several million immigrants, especially Italians and Spaniards but also Germans, French, Jews from Eastern Europe, etc. 
 
In the suburbs that are quickly populate, at the corner of the streets or in the patios of the conventillos, humble little popular balls are improvised with a few musical instruments and dance steps from all around the world. We dance in particular a version of the habanera, issued from the Spanish contradanza, itself issued from the French counter dance. Imported into Cuba by Spanish colonists and Frenchmen from Haiti and Louisiana, the contradanza is imitated and pastiched by black slaves and Creoles to give birth to the Cuban habanera, which itself will inspire both Tango and Rumba.
